In this class you will be able to choose words and characters that portray different emotions and then express those words variously with brush pressure, rhythm and confidence in your strokes. You'll not only learn brush stroke techniques but also about the history of calligraphy and the meaning of certain Japanese characters so you don't need to know any Japanese to begin.

In this course you will learn to use different sumi ink tones and brush techniques to create traditional Japanese sumie ink paintings and calligraphy on washi paper made from the mulberry.
